Pastoral Care

Pastoral Care at The Scots College focuses on the development of the 'whole student'; his values, attitudes and character on the journey to manhood. The Scots College strives to educate and raise confident future leaders driven by Christian values with a sense of purpose in the community.

The College wide Pastoral Care program fosters a school environment where each boy feels connected and valued and can develop to his full potential. The focus is on 'the individual within the community'; including the development of a sense of responsibility and respect in the boys' relationships with each other, College staff, parents and families, and in the broader community.

Christian values underpin our operations as a Presbyterian GPS school (Greater Public Schools).

  • A specialised Pastoral Care Team consisting of Housemasters, House Tutors, Counsellors and Chaplains oversees a comprehensive and proactive Pastoral Care and welfare system.
  • The House and Tutor system provides a secure grounding for boys and a strong base for building connections and friendships. A wide range of activities and competitions build a spirit of positive engagement and participation.
  • The progress and performance of each student is actively monitored by House Tutors with ongoing review and feedback in both pastoral and academic domains.
  • The formal Tutor Program uses activities, presentations and workshops to educate boys in areas, such as, life skills, mental health, emotional literacy, student motivation, anti-bullying, diversity in community, positive peer relations, alcohol and drug education, driver education, managing stress, safe partying and careers planning.
  • Leadership training and development programs in the College's Senior School enable boys to gain the confidence and skills to undertake leadership duties and responsibilities in areas such as Peer Support, House Leadership, College Prefecture, and broad range of sport and co-curricular teams.
  • The Community Service and Charity Program at Scots enriches the experience of boys by providing opportunities to develop and demonstrate care, respect and compassion to those outside the College community.
